International Pediatric Patient Travel and Accommodation Support
A child patient from Bangladesh required specialized medical treatment within a clinical trial in New York City. Both the child and their mother did not speak English and needed an interpreter for effective communication.
The Challenge
Colpitts Clinical needed to ensure effective communication between the child’s family and healthcare providers, provide comfortable and convenient accommodation for all parties. Synchronizing transportation schedules to ensure the interpreter’s continuous presence with the patient required meticulous planning.
Our Solution
Language Support and Accommodation
An interpreter who was fluent in the patient’s native language accompanied the patient and their mother on the flight to NYC. Upon arrival, the patient and their mother were accommodated at the Ronald McDonald House (“RMH”), a facility that supports families with children undergoing medical treatment. Due to limited space, Colpitts Clinical Travel Coordinators found the interpreter a room in a nearby hotel, ensuring they remained easily accessible to the family.
Transportation Logistics
Before the journey, detailed planning and coordination were carried out, including booking flights, securing accommodations, and arranging a nearby hotel for the interpreter. Upon arrival in NYC, a dedicated transportation service was engaged, with specific instructions to prioritize the interpreter’s continuous presence with the patient and mother.
Each day, the interpreter was picked up from their hotel first, followed by the patient and mother from RMH. After appointments, the patient and mother were dropped off at RMH before the interpreter was taken back to their hotel.
The patient received the necessary medical treatment without any communication barriers.
The patient’s mother felt supported and was able to participate fully in the care process.
This case study highlights the importance of thorough planning and coordination in supporting patients needing specialized medical care. Effective communication, comfortable accommodation, and reliable transportation were essential components that ensured the success of this case. |
